When and where exactly does this trip begin again?
Yeah, sorry about that. I guess officially it began when I arrived in Durban, right? I mean, with all that has happened to far, it would be a shame to have not posted anything at this point, right? The extra days actually helped my get back into the groove. I think when Alex and I started out on the Pan American trip, we really didn’t hit our groove until Mexico – seriously.
Daily Diary
Leaving Agulhas
I decided to stop by the monument on the way out of town to give a shout out to my friends in Uyuni a the Tonito Hotel. They gave me a t-shirt that I take pictures with from all over the world.

Ok, I made my first traveler faux pas. This guy actually took the photo….

He has taken more than 2,000 photos of the Indian/Atlantic from the same spot for years. It’s his daily ritual. Well, also as part of this ritual, when he meets someone from out of town he buys them a cup of coffee. We agreed to meet up at the coffee shop, we explained was just past the light on the right. Well, in the US, when we say “light” we mean stoplight. I didn’t remember seeing a stoplight on my way in, but I wasn’t really paying attention. I drove for about 10 minutes and then realized – dumbass, he meant “lighthouse”. You know, the giant one in the town!!! Well, “southernmost architect in Africa”, I truly apologize. Next time I am in town, please let me buy you a cup of coffee.
On The Road
The road was nice, but freezing! The temperature was about 50 when I left and it was foggy, which made it feel even colder at 75mph.
The trip was pretty short, only about 3.5 hours. I had been getting a warning light on my dash that was nagging at me about “Front Parking Lamp Fault” which was probably caused by the old battery since every time I jumped it, the screen would blank out and the front light would flicker on an off. Problem?
See you on the road to Cape Town!
